Grandparents, Relatives & Kinship Carers Association
GRaCKA is an Association that supports grandparents, relatives and kinship carers. GRaKCA is working towards the following goals:
• The appointment of a Kinship Care Worker in EACH region
• Immediate, long-term and ongoing counselling for grandparents
• Legal aid without means testing for grandparents
• Provision of respite
• Counselling and group therapy for the children
• Ongoing support services for parents/grandparents of aberrant and disabled children
• Access agreements which are in the best interests of the children and which cause minor disruption to their lives
• Links with government agencies so that assessments can be made earlier when grandparents feel that their grandchildren are at risk
• The printing and gathering of resource material which can guide kinship carers through the process of gaining custody of children
GRaCKA is for group support leaders and stakeholders to network, represent and advocate for grandparents, relatives and kinship carers. The aim is to gain recognition and support for grandparents, relatives and kinship carers in NSW by branding the message of “Together, we are not alone”. From a policy point GRaCKA aims for grandparents, relative and kinship carers raising kids fulltime to have equal access received by foster carers via counselling, respite care and financial support.
